Buy a Bar, Give a Bar
Each year more than 5 million people, mainly children, die in impoverished areas of the world due to respiratory infections and diarrhoeal diseases. These diseases kill more people in a year than HIV and malaria combined.
The majority of these illnesses are caused by the lack of proper hygiene and clean water. Studies have shown that hand washing with soap can reduce nearly half of these infections that ultimately lead to death.
Prevention is key. Simply put, a bar of soap can save a life.
together, we can save lives
For millions of people all over the world, a single bar of soap is unobtainable. This drastically increases their risk of fatal illness that could have easily been prevented.
At Hand in Hand, we donate one bar of soap for every bar purchased. Buy a bar, give a bar. We work directly with existing non-profit organizations that have the infrastructure in place to properly distribute our soap to those who need it most. Our first soap distribution took place at a few orphanages in Haiti in February 2012, where we personally hand delivered soap to hundreds of children who are parentless and living in devastating conditions. We have donated over 65,000 bars of soap thus far.
clean water program
While hand washing alone can reduce nearly half of water related deaths, we seek to effectively end water related illness in the communities we serve by introducing our new Clean Water Program. For every bar of soap, bath salt, or candle purchased, Hand in Hand will donate 1 month of clean water to 1 person. On june 27, we are cutting the ribbon on the first of many wells that Hand in Hand will be digging to provide clean water, to those who would otherwise not have access to clean water. This first well will provide clean water to over 240 families every single day.

palm oil free
Palm oil is a common base ingredient found in many organic soaps on the market today. Although organic, there are many negative environmental issues that are derived from its production. 86% of palm oil is produced in Southeast Asia. High demand for palm oil has lead to rapid clearing of tropical rainforests. The United Nations Environmental Programme predicts that by 2022 the palm oil industry could wipe out 98% of Indonesia's remaining forests.
Palm oil plantations are also directly linked to a decline in biodiversity, soil degradation, carbon emissions from burning forests, and a disregard for local communities and land rights. To find out more, please read this report from Friends of Earth.
saving the world's rainforests
While we DO NOT use any ingredient, specifically palm oil, derived from cleared rainforest, we recognize that many other soap companies do. As such, we are doing our part to stop the destruction of rainforests in Southeast Asia. For every bar purchased, we will save 50 square feet of rainforest in Southeast Asia, where palm plantations are currently causing devastation. We work directly with SeaCology.org for these efforts.
empowering an individual, strengthening the community
At Hand in Hand it is extremely important that the soap we donate, does not create a culture of dependency or put local merchants out of business. We specifically focus our efforts and donations towards disaster relief, so that we do not adversely impact local people and economies.
The foundation needed for sustainable economic growth, specifically in the developing world, are thriving small businesses. By partnering with Whole Planet, Hand in Hand is helping to secure microcredit loans for local businesses to get back on their feet, or get the jump start they need. Offering a microcredit loan to a small business empowers the individual, which in turn, strengthens a community. For every bar of of our Sustainable Suds purchased, Hand in Hand will make a donation directly to Whole Planet to help fund microcredit loans.
green packaging, green shipping
Sustainable Suds means more than just providing an eco-friendly soap. The soap's paper wrap is made from 30% recycled material.

After each order is placed, Hand in Hand Soap will purchase a corresponding carbon offset so each shipment becomes carbon neutral. Carbon offsetting is a way to counterbalance or compensate for the greenhouse gases produced during shipment.
